Another voice on Israeli divestmentHere's an article on Norwegians considering boycotting Israeli goods. I'd like to go on record here as saying that my own support for this idea in general, and the GPUS resolution specfically, should not be read as excusing violence against Israelis. Opposing the oppressor is not the same as giving a blank check to the oppressed. Violence is violence, and its use - in my eyes - is a de facto forfeiture of not only the moral high ground, but any moral ground at all. Killing innocents is wrong, and no conditions or qualifications apply. I am attempting, in my own ham-handed way, to apply the same standards to each side. What I, as someone who has only superficial knowledge of this situation, see is this... The Israelis fight the Palestinians with tanks and bulldozers and even jet fighters. I even remember hearing a news report of them bombing a refugee camp. The Palestinians fight back with slings and suicide bombers. Does this mean that I would tell the Palestinians that they should not fight back with slings and suicide bombers? Yes, it does. I would tell them to look to the examples of Dr. King in the US and Gandhi in India. The moral high ground is waiting for you. Take it. I don't want to make light of the conditions that would make not just one person but a whole generation willing to sacrifice itself rather than submit any longer. What I want is to say that you have other options.

Non violent resistance in Palestine
There is a growing non violent resistance movement among the Palestinians, though it never gets reported on.
One multinational organization that has gone into Palestine is Christian Peacemaker Teams. They attempt to insert themselves between the Israeli settlers and army in the West Bank, and Palestinian natives.
There is an ongoing, low grade war against the Palestinians that does not make the news. Rarely a day goes by that Palestinians aren't attacked by the Settlers or Army, their olive groves torn up, shepherds intimindated from going to their fields, or their property stolen by the settlers. You can get regular email reports from the peacemaker teams that detail the daily violence perpetrated against the Palestinians.
As to the GPUS resolution--hell yes it's needed!
