More criticism of the Democratic PartyI just got another email saying the Democrats in Congress need to grow a backbone. It wasn't from a Green, though, it was from TrueMajority, an organization of progressive [sic] Dems. Maybe I'm not seeing a representative sample, but it certainly seems to me that the grassroots Dems are almost completely united in their opposition to, well, pretty much everything the W administration is doing. They're against bombing Iran because they've learned not from history but from current events. So, where are the voices in Washington that reflect that? There's Russ Feingold, but when he takes a stand, the rest of his party responds with an embarassed silence. There's John Conyers, but he has to hold meetings in the basement. There's Cynthia McKinney, but she's such a political liability that even Conyers doesn't seem comfortable with her. The sheer wretchedness of the W administration means that many Dems will turn out to vote this fall. But... what will there be to vote for? Where will the peace candidates be?
