Green National Committee to vote in secret? The National Committee is voting on Proposal 220. This proposal deals with establishing rules for how votes are cast and counted for internal party national leadership. I am sure I am missing much of the issue because the proposal is HUGE, and so friggin dense that I couldn't find it in myself to actually read the whole thing. I did read enough to know that this proposal is confusing, and allows my representative on the National Committee to vote on leadership without any responsibility to me, his or her constitutient. Hugh Esco of Georgia is saying that the proposal is based in large part on how they do things in Georgia. While I have the deepest respect for the fine Greens in Georgia, I can't help but wonder if there are states where the Green Party has had a greater impact which might be able to offer a more effective template for us to follow. But no matter how you slice it, allowing the few Greens who can afford to self-finance a trip to the national convention, or enough time to spend responding to a blizzard of emails, to vote without accountability to those they are supposed to represent is a serious mistake. Proposal 220 should be voted down, and I hope you will tell your state representative how you want them to vote. More ranting can be found at my "regular" blog.
