Know a Green who has been excluded from debates? The national media committee has been presented with what I think may well turn out to be one of the most effective efforts we undertake this year. A press release was sent out by trhe Camejo for Governor campaign, pointing out that he was seen by many, if not most, as the winner of the debates he was allowed into. The League of Women Voters has apparently turned their backs on their herstory of including rather than excluding ballot qualified candidates. Used to be you had to have a corporate sponsored debate to get "exclusivity" as the Geko(sp?) would say. Anyway, after that was sent to the media committee, Aimee Smith sent a report on how a woman running for Governor, Grace Ross of MA, worker her way into the debates. It was perfect, and deserving of emulation. Frankly, it worked for her, why wouldn't it work for others? There is more behind the "Read More" link... What she did was show up at the debate, which she had been told she would not be allowed into, and simply greeted the folks as they came into the arena. The debate was sponsored by an environmental group, so many of the folks attending knew her. She told them that she was on the ballot and would like to participate in the debates. I imagine that at least some of these folks went to their "leaders" and asked that she be included, for lo and behold, that is exactly what happened. She got into the debate. Your candidate can too. I have set up a page at my blog, which you can get to by clicking here. On that page you will find a link to a YahooGroup for an announcement only list I have set up. Once a week I will send that list a request to do something simple for the Green Party. Sometimes it will be to send an email of fax or phone someone to try to get a Green into a debate they should be in. Other times it may well be internal, asking a delegation or committee or person to do something. Of course, participation is up to the individual and I won't know if you have done as suggested or not. It also won't be a debate list, since we all have access to plenty of debate here and elsewhere. If you want to kick in and help, stop by and leave me a note. Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled, and when you spot a Green being kept from debates, leave a note.
