Lest we forgetNot that there's not an awful lot going on, between the horrific war in Iraq and the horrific invasion of Lebanon, not to mention the steady slide towards fascism here at home... but, today marks 1627 days that Ingrid Betancourt has been held hostage by the FARC in Colombia.

Thanks for the reminder
In fact esteban, I think you have given me an idea.
Terri Gross of Fresh Air (I'm guessing on some of the spellings here) had an interview with Ingrid before she was captured. Maybe now would be a good time to bring this to their attention and ask Terri to re-broadcast the interview.
It was heartbreaking to hear her talking about sending her children to New Zealand so they would be safe from abduction in Colombia, and to know that she had the strength to stand up face to face to both the government and the FARC as well as the narcotics trade amazes me.
And think of Clara Rojas, her campaign manager, kidnapped along with Ingrid, a real life servent to the cause in her own right. More on their abduction is available by clicking here.
Good idea
Anything to keep her in the news.
Intriguingly, I was in the Dominican Republic a few years back as a translator for an FPVA meeting, and Ingrid's kids were in the neighborhood, so all 12 or 15 of us walked over to greet them and express our solidarity. They seemed grateful, in a weary sort of way.
And you are quite right to bring up Clara, which I should have done. It isn't as if Ingrid is the only captive of these would-be revolutionaries, or for that matter, even the two of them. There are hundreds of captives and thousands of dead. But as is so often the case, we don't hear about the suffering of innocents in the so-called liberal media.
