Thoughts for Labor Day

Today, I will head off to celebrate Labor Day with crowds of union members. It has me thinking about the resurgence of labor I've seen over the last few years, espcially when I went to Labor Notes a few months back. It's great to see it happening, because it's percolating up from the grassroots. The "leadership" isn't helping, and in more than one case, has proved to be a hindrance.

This seems to parallel the Gren Party's growth, which also comes from the grassroots up. However, neither of us will get all that far if all we do is parallel each other.

The labor movement and the Green Party need to work together closely, and to the extent possible, merge. Only then will we have the breadth and depth of support we need to reach our respective -- and mutual -- goals.
