Rich Whitney breaks through

So says the Chicago Tribune. Here in WI, we had a hard time getting our message out in the corporate media, but Rich Whitney, our neighbor to the south (that would be Illinois), managed to push through the political glass ceiling.

In part, this was due to a serious blunder by the Republicans. They publicized that Rich used to belong to the Socialist Equality Party, though he left it 13 years ago. This news was greeted by resounding yawns, but it did get him into the news. In fact, he was presented in a comparatively sympathetic light, with far more attention to detail and nuance than most Green candidates get, which gave him an air of legitimacy.

In the end, Rich pulled 11% of the vote -- not enough to put him in office, but a clear success story just the same.
