What responsibility do I have to the party? The national party is in difficult financial straights. From leadership to political, press and office staff, to the websites, lists, press releases, campaign advice, administrative efforts and simple foundational work done in Washington DC, all of we Greens benefit from the work that is done at the national level. It may be true that we suffer from it too at times, but unless there is another viable alternative out there, we are set to use the Green Party as our tool to make change. With that in mind, if you are willing and able to make a donation to the national party, wouldn't it make sense to have some of your donation matched by someone else? If it does, now is the time to give. Someone, I don't know who, has pledged to match 1 to 2 every donation over $50 to a total of $3500. In English, that means, if you drop $50 into the plate, someone else is going to kick in $25, making it $75 overall. And don't doubt for a moment that $75 will make a difference. As esteban has written here, Greens are exceptionally careful with money. We win votes cheaper than most any other party. Here in South Carolina we have run state wide and congressional campaigns on under a thousand dollars and won thousands of votes, even as high as 12% for congress. The national staff and national office are lifeblood to a national organization. I believe that the Green Party needs a serious debate about what our national efforts ought be for, but there can be no real doubt that we must have a national staff and office to be a national party. So, what is my responsibility? If I can afford it, to give. To invite other Greens to give. To ask friendly folks with money to give. To let our national staff and office know that we support them and their dedication to us. If you can give, please click this secure link to donate.
