Switch 2 GreenIf you've paid even passing attention to the Democratic Congress, you may be disgusted with their failure to do anything meaningful, or for that matter, anything unmeaningful, about the war in Iraq. Or you may be disgusted with them for their failure to prevent torture, or perhaps "special renditions." Or perhaps you're disgusted with them for their failure to stand up to illegal wiretapping. Or, it could be you're disgusted with the Dems for their complicity in so-called "free-trade" so-called "agreements." Perhaps you're sick of the influence on the Dems of AIPAC, Big Oil, Big Pharamaceuticals, Big HMOs, or any of a dozen other special corporate interests. Or maybe you just think they missed the boat on impeachment. Well, don't hold your disgust in until 2008. Become a Green now! No, really. Ask yourself: who represents the grassroots of of the Democratic Party? Take a close look. The positions the Democratic base holds are not those of the elected Democrats. It's the Green Party that represents progressives.

Green Party not just for disgruntled Democrats
Thanks for keeping your blog up and running esteban. Because of family health issues my own blog and local chapter website have not gotten the attention they need. I am happy, however, to report that our local Greens are growing, and next year we plan to contend for enough seats to have a majority of our county level legislature. Here that's called a County Commission, but the name varies across the nation.
One thing I would suggest is that we are not only a party for disgruntled Democrats. Indeed, if that's all we can hope to attract, we'll never reach the heights we can. Afterall, since the Democratic Party looses regularly to the Republicans, taking our membership primarily from that party means we are unlikely to rise above their levels of success.
Former Republicans should also be warmly welcomed into the Green Party, as well as former members of the full range of non-fascist parties. Let's not forget that the national party's political director, Brent McMillan, was a Republican before he joined the Green Party.
Perhaps most importantly, the Green Party must seek out the independent and the non-voter. These people are the VAST majority of the nation's citizens, and the true sleeping giant of US, and world, politics. If we can find the ways to move those folks we will not be stopped.
