Seven out of fourteen Green Party candidates win elections throughout Wisconsin

Twenty-two Green elected officials serve in Wisconsin

Last night, seven more Green candidates for local offices were elected
throughout Wisconsin, bringing the total of Wisconsin Green elected
officials to twenty-two.

And you thought YOU didn't like the Democratic Party...

Here's a guy who has a blog consisting entirely of a merciless critique (from the left) of the Democratic Party. He's not a Green, and in fact has some pretty unkind things to say about the Green Party. Still, that doesn't worry me, because in the context of the other solutions presented in the book, the arguments against supporting the Green Party come off as simply more viriol, not considered logic.

All in all, Stop Me Before I Vote Again is as much venting as reasoning. But a little venting is good for us all once in a while.

This should be an April Fool's story, but it's not

The Green Party of Mexico wants to increase penalties for abortion. Yes, increase. What an embarrassment to the rest of the Green movement...

The ecologically-responsible operating system: Linux

The Canadian government has figured out that Linux requires far fewer hardware upgrades. That means less energy going into building new comuputers, and fewer computers (and nasty chemicals like mercury) going into the wastestream.

Upgrades to new operating systems, like, say, Vista, frequently require a new computer, because computers that are only a couple of years old won't run it properly. Linux, in contrast, will run just fine on those computers, and even older ones.

I've given away every computer I've ever owned, and since 2001, that's meant a computer with Linux on it. I gave an old iBook to a friend in Nicaragua, and within six months, he liked Linux better than Windows. If he can learn it, you can learn it.

Today, I run Linux on two computers -- a Dell laptop and an iMac. I just yesterday updated both to run the most up-to-date software available. Because I can do that as often as I like, at no cost, there's no reason I can't use these two computers for many years to come.

Rev. Pinckney found guilty in Benton Harbor

Note: This is a case the Green Party of Michigan has followed closely, and has occasionally made Green news sources nationally. Rev. Pinckney is known as a community organizer with the intestinal fortitude to stand up to racism, institutional injustice, and corporate power for years at a time.

To the disbelief of supporters, Rev. Edward Pinkney -- a courageous community leader who has dedicated his life to the defense of the poor -- was found guilty of all 5 charges on March 21.

He faces twenty years in prison. A white Judge, prosecutor, and jury convicted Rev. Pinkney. The jury deliberations in this travesty of justice lasted less than seven hours. The charges are:

Why do we need the Green Party?

Hello -

I've been thinking a great deal about how best to convey, in a simple manner, why the Green Party is needed today more than ever.

Therefore, I would like to share the speech I gave at an anti-war event at the Beneficent Church this past Sunday in Providence RI. I'd love feedback should you have interest in reading all or part. However, it is the last six paragraphs where I summarize the need to build the party.

Thank you,

What was the result of the 2006 elections? What happened to the anti-war mandate that voted in the new Congress? Did the people of this country vote for a "non-binding anti-war Congress?" Did they vote for a possible 2008 deadline to the war? NO, they voted for a Congress that would bring U.S. troops home from Iraq now.

Back on the air

After a month hiatus, Chlorophyll is back. We had some technical difficulties, plus I got three day jobs in rapid succession. Anyway, I'm back. I might not post as often as I used to (which could be measured in weeks as it was), but just so you know, I haven't forgotten.

Likewise, spammers -- the cockroaches of the Internet -- haven't forgotten, either. A dozen sub-human accounts came my way since my last post here. I deleted them all gleefully. If I met a spammer in person, it would be the ultimate test of my commitment to non-violence.

• Congress must cut off funding for all U.S. military actions in Iraq, compelling President Bush to call the troops home, say Greens, citing Vietnam War precedent

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party leaders urged Congress, as it debates a nonbinding resolution on President Bush's proposal to send 21,500 more U.S. troops to Iraq, to reject a discussion of
the war on strategic grounds, and instead address the war as a criminal act of military aggression.

Please contact your delegates

The Green National Committee has not passed a new budget yet. As a stop-gap measure to allow the national party to meet our obligations and pay our bills, the Steering Committee has offered Proposal 259.

The "problem" is that a 2/3 super-majority of states must vote on this proposal or it fails for lack of a quorum. Thus far, only 15 states have voted, leaving us far from the goal. With only three days left, please ask your state's delegates to vote today.
