Green Party response to the State of the Union

I'll acknowledge that the three videos put on the web by the Green Party in response to the President's message are far from professional. In one, for example, John Eder of Maine tells us that "You don't even have to be smart to run for office.". Thanks John! *L*

Even so, the videos do tell a bit about the Green Party. Two are from elected Greens. Two are women. All are young. All are passionate. All are comitted to being the change they want to make.

The videos are refreshing to me in one sense, and that is that it clearly shows that the Green Party can elect average folks to important local offices without turning them into smooth professional politicians.

Invitation to national reps

I want to extend an invitation to national reps to post here about the recent Delegate Allocation Proposal. I don't understand it, and I bet many other Greens don't, either. Just looking down the vote list makes it clear it was controversial. What were the issues? What happens now? Please catch your constituents up!

Delegate Allocation Committee proposal defeated

The proposal, which would change the way delegates to the Green National Committee are apportioned and allow for proxy voting for no longer than a year, had to pass a 2/3 muster to win. It failed that.

Cat Wood of California has written on the Green National Committee listserve that the California Greens might re-evaluate their continuing association with the USGP.

Green/Libertarian efforts paying off in Ohio

Remember back in 2004, when Ohio was the new Florida? It wasn't the Democrat you saw calling for democracy, or standing up for himself! No, you saw the Green and the Libertarian calling for the votes to all be counted. Well, it's resulted in two felony convictions at this point, and might be creeping into the public consciousness.

NRC decides nuke operators don't have to try to prevent attack

The Nuclear Regulatory Comission has ruled that companies who own and run nuclear power stations and other nuclear related facilities like waste storage can't be expected to implement prevention programs to safeguard their nuclear materials, therefore they need only plan to clean up after the fact. The report is right right here.

Now I live less than ten miles as the crow flies from two reactors at the Catawba Nuclear Station. They are less than twenty miles from the Charlotte airport. A stolen plane could crash into the reactor within minutes of take off.

FEC recognizes GPUS SCC

If you don't recognize it yourself, read all about it!

The Nation contemplates Watada's mistrial

Frankly, I think they're a little overoptimistic about the results of a procedural foul-up, but see what you think.

USGP aims for another toehold: a Senatorial Campaign Committee

Chalk up another milestone for the Green Party! Well, soon, anyhow. Some time this week, the FEC will consider our application for a Senatorial Campaign Committee. Assuming they approve us, we'll be only the third party in history to have an SCC (not to be confused with the SC, the CCC, or the old CC).

Holding Bush to Account for Climate Lies, Neglect

from The Nation; by John Nichols

Viewers of Fox News, listeners to Rush Limbaugh and all the other sorry deadenders who choose Bush administration propaganda over perspective will be shocked to learn that the debate about global warming has been over for a long time.
